InnograinLab coordinates BIOPOM, a ~€1.1 million project funded under the Horizon Europe FutureFoodS Partnership
Mario Martinez, from InnograinLab and the Institute of Sustainable Processes (ISP), is coordinating BIOPOM (Biotechnological Upcycling of Fruit Pomace into Prebiotic Food Ingredients), a project with a budget of approximately €1.1 million, funded under the first call of the European Union's Horizon Europe FutureFoodS Partnership.
BIOPOM brings together an outstanding consortium of academic and industrial partners, including Clarissa Schwab (Aarhus University), Lillian Barros (Instituto Politécnico de Bragança), Magdalena Svänström (Chalmers University of Technology), María Franco Marcos (La Tahona de Sahagún S.L.), Fernando Maena (BrainApple), and Gustavo Costales (Sidra Frutos).
The project aims to develop innovative biotechnological approaches to upcycle fruit pomace into high-value prebiotic food ingredients, contributing to more sustainable and circular food systems.
On June 17th 2026, Mario Martinez also had the opportunity to present the project at the joint FutureFoodS Kick-off Meeting held at CIHEAM Bari (Italy).
The consortium gratefully acknowledges the financial support provided by the European Union's Horizon Europe programme through the FutureFoodS Partnership, as well as by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), CDTI Innovación – Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación, Innovation Fund Denmark, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), and Formas – the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development.
